Reporting to the National Director, Sustainability and Energy Management, this newly created role of Manager, Sustainability and Energy Management (Corporate Real Estate) will guide, review, analyze and report on sustainability efforts with a primary focus on GWL corporately owned properties.  

This position will also interact with various internal and external teams, especially the Manager, Sustainability and Energy Management, to help drive sustainability related projects, including but not limited to reporting into various industry recognized frameworks (such as CPD, GRI and GRESB) on corporate sustainability activities. 

You’ll help us move to the next level by:

• Working closely with various internal teams on the development of  clear, measurable sustainability performance indicators
• Assisting business units, especially property management/operations, to implement green standards and best practices across the organization
• Working across departments to ensure targets for energy, water and waste reduction are set and met at the individual property level and recommend new targets if needed
• Working closely with 3rd party consultants to provide input into energy management reports, annual GHG inventory reports, and online industry performance database 
• Monitoring and tracking progress on performance indicators; provide assistance and guidance when  needed
• Supporting a database across a national portfolio; including collection, review, analysis and maintenance in order to report on sustainability efforts, especially tracking energy and water retrofits and savings 
• Analyzing information from various sources (i.e. market/trend research, GHG, energy and water inventories) and, working closely with property operations, identify areas of improvement within each property
• Conducting research and remaining current on new technologies and green operational practices; prepare presentations, market and research papers for internal and external distribution
• Preparing sustainability statistics on a quarterly basis and assisting in the preparation of the annual Public Accountability Statement and other stakeholder requests for information (i.e. CDP, customer survey etc)

• High level of competency in respect to sustainability practices, energy management, environmental management, GHG management and green buildings certifications
• Proven experience in measuring and analyzing trends and developing new ideas to increase efficiencies
• Ease and comfort in dealing with a wide variety of groups/professionals
• Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively
• Exceptional reporting and analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work under tight timelines - you are a self-starter and team player
• Ability to oversee and manage consultants

When we meet you in person, we’ll want to hear more about your:

• Approximately five years of relevant experience in sustainability with strong focus on corporate sustainability reporting and energy management 
• Post secondary education in a related field (e.g. environmental studies, science/engineering, sustainable development)
• Continued learning through pursuit of relevant sustainability and/or building operations/management related designation (will be considered an asset) 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills 
• Experience in the development and delivery of presentations
• Familiarity with building systems 
• Strong analytical abilities and date(base) management skills 
• Proficiency in MS-Excel and MS-Access
