Position Overview:    
      
Reporting to the Supervisor, Security and Life Safety, the successful candidate will fill the permanent full-time position of Security Guard at Western Canadian Place in Calgary AB. The Security Guard is a “hands on” position responsible for daily duties and routines to ensure the safety and comfort of all building occupants relating to security and life safety.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that building guidelines, procedures and policies are observed by all occupants
• Maintain access control criteria in conjunction with providing facility reception services
• Provide monitoring services for a variety of building systems (i.e. security system, fire system, building automation system), report irregularities immediately (i.e. alarms, system troubles, etc) to appropriate personnel and/or municipal emergency response authorities when applicable (i.e. fire alarm, intruder, medical emergency)
• Respond to emergency situations in accordance with Emergency Plans and/or as directed (i.e. fire, flood, medical emergency, bomb threat, etc)
• Conduct escorts and monitors general and sensitive areas for detection of suspicious activities and/or hazardous conditions/operations and takes appropriate action to mitigate risk of loss or injuries
• Maintain a personal log of all shift activity and compile detailed occurrence reports regarding incidents/ circumstances of a serious nature
• Compile maintenance deficiency reports for Property Management personnel  and follow up and maintain a process for pending items through to completion
• Maintain registration logs for recording access activity by visitors and contractors and record/track the issue and recovery of keys and miscellaneous equipment held in their care
• Remain available at all times throughout the shift to respond to emergency situations and/or fire alarm events
• Ensure that tenant problems relating to security or life safety are promptly addressed and resolved
• Keep abreast of security and life safety standards, new applications and trends
• Ensure that all company policies, standards and core values are adhered to
• Establish and maintain an excellent work environment for the tenants, staff and contractors
• Keep the Supervisor well informed of his/her operations and of any unusual matters

Requirements:

• Possess a high school diploma
• Must hold current Alberta security license
• Minimum of one year experience as a Security Guard
• Emergency First Aid and CPR training required, AED preferred
• Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written
• Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Must be observant with the ability to identify potential situations and hazards
• Maintain a professional, courteous and customer service oriented attitude
• Proven ability to be attentive to details
• Must be a strong team player and confident decision-maker
