Our Commitment

We work collaboratively with tenants and service providers to reduce waste production, and increase waste diversion rates.

Waste recycling programs have been established in our multi-residential and office buildings. In addition to the reduction of materials at source, we have focused on recycling programs and waste audits. Increasing waste diversion rates, by setting targets and related waste management action plans, is also a key component of the Sustainability Benchmarking and Conservation Program for our office assets.

Recycling programs: Our property management teams ensure recycling is available for a broad range of waste streams, including traditional recyclables (paper, cans and bottles). They also work to enhance or introduce newer streams such as organics, electronic waste, batteries, toner cartridges and fluorescent lighting, where available.

Waste audit: Where needed, annual audits of buildings’ waste streams are conducted by a third party to identify areas for waste reduction and increase diversion of waste from landfill. Waste profiles at the property level are used to educate staff, tenants and occupants on better waste management and recycling practices.

The sustainability team reviews our waste performance and compares it against industry benchmarks, regional averages and internal performance measures. The information is used to continuously improve our performance.
