GWL Realty Advisors Joins the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund on Pathway to Reconciliation

To further support their Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Program, GWL Realty Advisors (GWLRA) today announced a five-year sponsorship of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. GWLRA will participate in the Legacy Spaces Program which aims to provide education and spread awareness about Indigenous history.

“As part of our overall journey to building an inclusive culture, we first committed to the Downie Wenjack Fund in 2021”, says Glenn Way, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, GWLRA. “We’re pleased to expand our support with the hope that our participation will help to further promote reconciliation in Canada.”

Inspired by Chanie’s story and Gord’s call to build a better Canada, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

“Legacy Spaces provide safe spaces to learn about Indigenous history and create awareness, education, and engagement opportunities to ultimately further reconciliation,” said Sarah Midanik, President & CEO of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. “GWL Realty Advisors joins a growing network of partners across the country that are committed and passionate about creating positive relationships and change. We are thrilled to welcome them to the program.”

GWLRA’s participation in the Legacy Spaces Program will include ReconciliACTIONS that are both internally and externally focused.

“As a leading real estate organization, we are approaching the Legacy Spaces Program in a slightly different way. The office buildings that we manage are busy hubs to thousands of businesses, visitors, and transient traffic, says Way. “We believe that the lobbies of these buildings offer a tremendous opportunity to share important messages with the community.”

GWLRA manages an office portfolio of 63 buildings across Canada. Throughout the year, people that access our buildings will be able to learn from a rotation of timely messages about Indigenous history and culture on digital screens in elevators and lobbies of many of these buildings.

In addition to our commitment to the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, GWLRA will continue its long-standing relationship with Habitat for Humanity, the United Way Centraide, and donating our time, talent, and resources to charitable causes that are important to our local regions and employees.
